being green

It is important to CyberDiamond, our community and the world to take actions to be environmentally responsible.  CyberDiamond and our team members take actions to provide a greener way of business and life.

We use sustainable renewal energy through a thin film photovoltaic solar power system on our building.  We produce electric power that is sold to NC Green Power and Blue Ridge Electrical Coop in return to offset the electricity consumed.

We implement the Rescue, Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle motto.

We take old computers and other electronics and try to refurbish and sell or donate to give someone a chance at a usable computer.  Next, we take the salvaged components and use them in other computer systems. Then parts not useable may be sold for scrap where the precious metals can be removed. Rescue and Reuse keep them out of the landfill.

Rescue

  • We locate unused computers and related equipment still within its life cycle.

  • We check it over and run diagnostics to see if the equipment is worth using again.

  • If so we clean and re-format and fine new homes for the computers.

Reuse

  • We use reusable beverage containers.

  • We reuse Styrofoam (Polystyrene Foam) in packaging for shipping.

  • We reuse Air-Packs, peanuts and shipping cushion materials whenever possible.

  • We use reusable shopping bags much of the time.

  • We reuse cardboard boxes or recycle corrugated cardboard.

Reduce

  • We use CFL bulbs in over 50% of our lighting needs.

  • We use a gasoline efficient Smart vehicle when not hauling large items.

  • We conserve the use of water, electricity and propane where feasible.

  • We only print when necessary — think twice before using the print function.

  • We shut down computers when not in use.

  • We use power strips with switches for many of the other electronics.

  • We use CatalogChoice.org to manage catalogs we do not want to receive – save a tree and subscribe to the online versions of the ones we do want.

  • We use Energy Star compliant electronics.

Recycle

  • We recycle toner and ink cartridges.

  • We recycle old papers and use the backside for note paper or quick prints, and junk mail offers; finally they are shredded and processed into logs using an Eco Paper Log Maker for the woodstove or fireplace. See how it is done.

  • We recycle magazines, newspaper, junk mail (remove plastic windows first); plastics in including bottles, aluminum, tins cans and glass.

  • Return plastic shopping bags for recycling.

  • We are members of the Audubon Society and plant new trees every year.
